A green bond is defined by The World Bank as a debt security that is issued to raise capital specifically to support climate related or environmental projects.
The annual growth rate for green bonds issued has been 95% per year since 2007 when the first green bond was launched; an incredibly high rate of growth!
The green bond market reached $1 trillion in 2020 and the U.S. was the largest geographic issuer with a total issuance of $51 billion.
