One of my favorite books is Tiny Beautiful Things: Advice on Love and Life from Dear Sugar by Cheryl Strayed. This is a book that I came across after reading the last chapter of Cheryl's book in a blog post by Farnam Street. The last chapter was so well written, influential, and touching that I read it twice, was then late to my basketball game, and then the first thing I did when I came home from my game was read it one more time.
A lot of people know Cheryl Strayed for her book Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail which was a best seller and was eventually turned into a motion picture where Cheryl was played by Reece Weatherspoon. Before Cheryl was a best selling author, she was an advice columnist for the website: the Rumpus. What made Cheryl so damn good was her ability to write well, but more importantly it was her ability to emphasize with the readers who would ask her questions. She would at times think about a question for multiple weeks before she wrote an answer. She draws a lot from her own experiences in life and she isn't afraid to reveal the adversity and struggles she went through.
